DR. HELEN SACHS CHASET
Helen is an educator with more than 45 years of experience in administration, professional development and program development. Formerly the Director of Professional Development at Scheck Hillel Community School and a retired principal from the Montgomery County Maryland Public Schools, Dr. Chaset is a graduate of Clark University, with a B.A. in Psychology, and The George Washington University with an M.A. in Special Education) an Ed.D. in Program Evaluation/Special Education.
Dr. Chaset is a board member of Miami Dade Holocaust Survivors, and is Board Chair of Jewish Community Services of South Florida. She is the daughter of two Holocaust Survivors and was born in a displaced persons camp in Hannover, Germany.
Dr. Chaset's passion for education and research related to the Holocaust led her to become one of three community leaders responsible for the recent collaborative symposium, "Trans-generational Transmission of Trauma and Resilience" presented at the University of Miami.
Recognizing that learning takes place life-long, inside and outside of schools, through social interaction, and increasingly through digital media, she sees My Survivor as a way for future generations to learn the lessons of resilience that she was privileged to learn from her parents.
